Head Coach: Sam Johnson

"Coach J" began coaching at Siuslaw in 2019 after serving as offensive coordinator at Pleasant Hill High School.  Prior to his time at Pleasant Hill, Coach J was an assistant coach at Sheldon High School. A graduate of Siuslaw High, Johnson played receiver and defensive back for the Vikings under Tim Dodson, where he earned league honors on offense and defense. Johnson was also 1st Team All-State Wide Receiver. He also had the privilege of playing in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game. For Coach J, his time as a Siuslaw Football Player was special.  One of his fondest memories was playing in the 2011 State Championship along side his older brother, John.  Coach J also teaches mathematics at SHS. His favorite NFL team is the Raiders.

Assistant Coach: Tom Shinn

Coach Shinn began coaching on the Siuslaw football staff in 2018.  Coach Shinn comes to Florence after serving for several years as JV Head Football Coach at Dallas High School.  Coach Shinn’s coaching career consists of 3 years as an assistant at Gervais HS, 6 years at Willamina 
HS where he was the Head Coach his final season, 3 years at LaCreole Middle School where he was the Head Coach his final two seasons and then 5 years at Dallas HS.  He played his high school career at Roseburg High School under legendary coach Thurman Bell where he was a two-year letter winner.  He later went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Western 
Oregon University in Monmouth, as well as his Master’s degree from Pacific University in Forest Grove. In addition to his years spent in education, Coach Shinn was also a member of the Polk County Sheriff Department in the correctional division. Coach Shinn teaches social studies and serves as Head Baseball Coach at Siuslaw High School. His favorite NFL team is the Cincinnati Bengals. It is well known he is also a huge Cincinnati Reds Fan.

Assistant Coach: Gerald Fleming

Affectionately known as "Coach Flem," he is a Florence native and Siuslaw graduate.  He played offensive and defensive line for the Vikings under legendary coach, Len Lutero.  While playing for the Vikings, Fleming was selected to play in the East/West Shrine All-Star Game. He later went on to play football at Southern Oregon University as a defensive tackle. After a law enforcement career in Alaska and Oregon, he earned his masters degree from Eastern Oregon University to begin a career in elementary education. He began his teaching career in the Salem area and coached at North Marion High School for 6 years. He later returned home to Florence to teach at Siuslaw Elementary School. Coach Fleming has been coaching the offensive and defensive line at Siuslaw High School since 2006 and helped them win the state championship in 2006 and then return to the state championship in 2011.  Coach Flem's favorite NFL teams are the Colts and Raiders.

Assistant Coach: Bob Teter 

Coach Teter began coaching football at Siuslaw High School in 2010.  He took a break in 2016 and then returned in 2018. Coach Teter coached youth football in Oregon for 10 years, the middle school level for 4 years, at the high school level in Idaho and Oregon for 10 years as well as 2 years at the semi-pro level.  He has also served as a clinician at several regional camps and clinics working with Div 1, AFL and NFL coaches. Teter played high school football at Greenleaf Friends Academy in Idaho, earning league honors as a defensive end, and then at the collegiate level at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and Eastern Oregon University as a line backer and defensive lineman. He also played 1 year at the semi-pro level as a lineman. Coach Teter received his degree in Health and Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Administration from Eastern Oregon University. Coach Teter is currently employed as Executive Director of Siuslaw Outreach Services. He is a huge Chicago Bears fan.

Assistant Coach: Dennis Davidson

Coach Davidson has been coaching youth and middle school football for several years in the Florence area.  He began coaching at Siuslaw High School in 2016 under Jamin Pool. Davidson also coached at Siuslaw Middle School for 2 years and Boys & Girls Club for 5 years. He played high school football at Neah-Kah-Nie High School in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Coach Davidson is retired from the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department. He is a long-time Dallas Cowboys fan.

Assistant Coach: Jeff Gray 

Coach Gray has been with the Siuslaw Football program for several years.  A Siuslaw Alum, Gray began as a volunteer with the program in 1992.  He took some time off from the program from 1995 to 2005 for a career in corrections.  In 2006, he rejoined the program and began working for the Siuslaw School District driving bus. Coach Gray has a key role in equipment maintenance and filming.  His favorite NFL teams are the Chargers and Steelers.

Assistant Coach: Andy Johnson

Coach Johnson is the father of Head Coach Sam Johnson.  Coach Johnson is a graduate of Marshfield High School.  He has coached in the Siuslaw School District off and on for many years.  Football is a major part of the Johnson family.  His father coached at Marshfield.  His two brothers, Lane and Marty, were both highly successful coaches at Sheldon High in Eugene. Coach Johnson is owner and principal broker at Coldwell Banker Coast Real Estate. Johnson's favorite team is the New York Giants.

Assistant Coach: William Jones

Coach Jones is a 2015 graduate of Siuslaw High School.  Coach Jones was an exceptional athlete at Siuslaw competing in four sports.  His senior year he was all-league at the running back position and as a kick returner. Coach Jones competed at the collegiate level in track.  He is also an accomplished musician. Coach Jones is a Saints fan.

Assistant Coach: Nick Johnson

Coach Johnson has coached football at Blanchet Catholic in Salem and LaCreole Middle School in Dallas. As a senior at Blanchet Catholic, Johnson was an All-State Wide Receiver and Defensive Back.  He also had the privilege of playing in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game in 2011. Johnson went on to play Wide Receiver at Pacific University.  He received his Masters in Education from George Fox University.  Currently, he teaches 7th grade social studies at Siuslaw Middle School. His favorite team is the New England Patriots. 

All coaches are certified in HEADS UP FOOTBALL which covers concussion awareness, prevention and protocols as well as heat illness prevention.  Siuslaw Football coaches have also met all OSAA certification requirements. In addition, many of the coaches have spent personal time and money to attend several conferences and clinics to not only better themselves but to help ensure a positive and rewarding experience for your child.
